Know your mom is OK, even from another country.
Your parent taps one “I’m OK” button each day. You see it in your own time zone. If the tap doesn’t come, we remind her, text her, call her, and then call family in the order you choose.

Planned price: $9.99 a month for the whole family.
How it works
One tap a day for her. One quiet notification a day for you. The steps below only happen when the tap doesn’t come.
She taps “I’m OK”
Once a day, at a time that suits her. Big button, no password, nothing else to learn. A gentle reminder if she forgets.
You see it in your time zone
Her check-in shows up on your phone with her local time and yours, so you never have to do the math.
No tap? We reach her first
A reminder on her phone, then a text, then an automated call: “Press 1 if you’re OK.” Most missed taps end here.
Still nothing? Family in order
We call your family contacts one by one, in the order you set. At night, someone nearby goes first so you’re not woken at 3 AM with no way to help.
Built for families in different countries
We’re starting with families split between the US and Europe, because that’s the distance we know. Every detail below exists because of it.
Both clocks on every alert
Each message shows her time and your time side by side. “8:52 AM in Chicago · 15:52 in Bordeaux.” No counting on your fingers while you’re worried.
Someone nearby goes first at night
If it’s the middle of the night where you are, we call a contact in her country first: a neighbor, a sibling, a friend who can actually knock on the door.
Early warnings, before anything is wrong
Low battery at bedtime. Phone silent for hours during the day. Reminders switched off by accident. Small things you’d notice if you lived next door.
Texts and calls across borders
We send texts and place calls to US and European numbers for you. No international plan, no calling cards, no “does her phone even get my texts?”

We’re building OK From Afar now and want to hear from the families who need it. Takes about a minute. We’ll email you once when it launches, and not before.
Questions people ask
Can I use it today?
Not yet. We’re testing whether enough families need this before we build the full service. If you join the waitlist, you’ll be the first to hear when it’s ready, and you’ll help us decide what to build first.
Is this an emergency service?
No. OK From Afar tells you when a daily check-in is missed and helps your family reach each other. It does not call emergency services and it does not replace 911, 112, or a medical alarm. If your parent has a fall-risk or a medical condition that needs immediate response, please keep using a dedicated medical alert service alongside this.
Does my parent need a smartphone?
Yes, for the first version. The “I’m OK” button lives in a small app on an iPhone or Android phone. We’re also looking at check-ins by text message for parents who prefer a simpler phone, and we’d love to know if that matters to you. There’s a box for it in the form.
Does it track my parent’s location?
No. We don’t follow where she goes. The only exception: if a check-in is missed and she has allowed it in advance, we can share her phone’s last known location with the family, so someone nearby knows where to look. She can turn that off at any time.
Who is behind this?
OK From Afar is made by Hearthkind Labs, a small independent studio. We’re building it because we have parents who live alone an ocean away, and the tools we found were either built for one country or built for emergencies rather than for everyday peace of mind. You can reach us at hello@hearthkindlabs.com.
